Mendocino Stories & Music Series on May 4
Welcome in the May with Holly Tannen and Amelia Hogan on Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Mendocino Hotel’s Garden Room. Mendocino Stories and Music Series will feature Holly and Amelia together, debuting Holly’s new songs, The Flower of Australia and The Battle Hymn of the International Subversives. Music starts at 7:30PM.
Amelia Hogan is a compelling and authentic Irish sean nos (old style) singer. She’ll sing Irish sean nos (old style) songs in Irish and
English.

Well-known in our area, Holly Tannen sings to centuries-old melodies, and then you notice she’s singing about the Internet, or Beavis and Butthead, or northern California marijuana growers. She sings these songs as if the ancient ballads were always about things like that (and in a sense, they were.) She also knows just when and how to aim for the heart with something more serious.
“Holly Tannen and Amelia Hogan welcome in the May with traditional English and Irish songs and Holly’s satirical songs about life in Mendocino and on the Net.“Witness – participate in! – the debut of The Battle Hymn Of The International Subversives, the true story of the Melbourne hackers and the worm that wanked NASA”
Mendocino Stories and Music Series on May 5
On Saturday, May 5, Mendocino Stories and Music Series will feature “Nightclub Night”, a monthly romantic Date Night event in which the ballroom at the Hill House Inn is transformed into an urban Dinner and Jazz Club. Enjoy a candlelit dinner and conversation as the Braet and Brown Duo plays light music. As the evening progresses they will switch to classic improvisational jazz. Music starts at 7:30PM.
David is a New Orleans native, has a Masters in Music from UNO, and in 1991 moved to Fort Bragg, CA where he began playing with many local bands here including Safe Sax, Pura Vida, Phil Lawrence, Danny Barca, Mambo This and led the traditional New Orleans Jazz and Hot Swing Band, The Big Easy Jazz Band. For the last several years David has performed with the Krewe of Sound, his own group playing jazz-rock fusion and original music that covers everything from Dixieland to the avant-garde.

Jack Braet is a graduate of North Texas State, and brings an inspired hipness to his clarinet, saxophones and flute playing that delighted audiences at Ledford House for many years. Jack has also played with many local musicians such as Bob Ayres, Ira Rosenberg, Terry Simcik, and was also a featured member of the Big Easy Jazz Band and is also a vital part of the Krewe of Sound.
